Greek Medical Clinic » Laser » Acne Treatment » Acne treatmentAcne is a chronic inflammation of pilosebaceous units, occurs most commonly during adolescence, and often continues into adulthood. The pores becomes blocked by skin cells and sebum. In adolescence, acne is usually caused by an increase in male sex hormones that stimulate sebaceous glands in abnormal sebum secretion. As sebum production increases, the number of P. acnes bacteria, that normally resides in the pores, increases creating the inflammatory stage of acne. The LASER technology can affect the factors of acne.
How does the LASER treatment work?Acne can be treated by using the technology of intense pulsed light (IPL) in combination with radiofrequency (RF). The p. acnes produce porphyrins that absorb the light energy and this procedure destroy the bacterias and reduce the sebum production from the sebaceous glands making the skin to look healthier and less oily. Eight sessions are required for the first month of therapy (twice a week). Then, the patient is advised to have 1-2 sessions a month in order to avoid an acne relapse. The treatment can be combined with medical treatments, except retinoids.Contraindications to LASER treatment? There are no contraindications, except the case of photosensitivity. The therapy can be used all the year and all types of skin can be treated.![]() |
