Injectable treatments: Safety is a priority
The choice of an injectable treatment requires special attention and proper investigation before taking a final decision. As common as injectable treatments may be nowadays, the right choice is not at all (or at least not only) a matter of price.
Check out the guide below before you make your final choice!
Before the treatment you want to make sure:
- That the doctor you choose is a specialized plastic surgeon or dermatologist
- That your full medical record has been taken and that all possible complications have been explained to you (yes, there may be complications in all injectable treatments)
- That all your questions for contraindications on injectables have been answered thoroughly
- That you have clear instructions and information about the treatment, the drug used, its mode of action, expected results and possible complications
- That you have received instructions on what to do after the treatment, preferably in writing, in order not to miss something important. Most complications arise because the doctor does not give all the necessary information on what the patient should do after the treatment
- That the formulations used are authentic and the drug packaging is opened in front of you. Ask to witness as the doctor removes them from their packaging and make sure they are not imitations of original products. While imitation is a cheaper material, it may be hazardous to your health.
- If you choose to have Botox done, get to know the dilution of the drug, where exactly the treatment will be performed, how many pitches will be performed etc. Also ask to see the expiration date written on the packaging and find out the total dose that will be injected into you. All these are critical factors for the price of the treatment and it is your right to know beforehand
Finally, ask your doctor to confirm that he has written in your medical record the product code and expiration date. Take a note of them yourself as well: it is very important to have this information at any given time.
During the treatment:
- Ask your doctor not to hurry. Ideally there should be someone helping him / her
- Ask your doctor to switch off the mobile phone and check that he has washed his hands and has cleansed and disinfected your face.
After the treatment:
- Be sure to stay on site for 10-15 minutes.
- Do not leave if you feel dizzy or unwell.
Ask to see the doctor a few days after the treatment (approximately 8 - 10). During the revaluation session, the doctor should check the final result. This visit should be free of charge and if additional injection of botulinum toxin is needed, this should be free of charge as well.
When should you reconsider:
If you think that any of the above conditions remains unfulfilled, do not proceed with the injection treatment. If your doctor does not want to follow the steps described above or does not seem willing to answer your questions, no matter how detailed they may be, do not trust this doctor. If, for financial reasons you cannot choose a more expensive but more reliable option, it would be advisable not to proceed with any injectable treatment.
Injectables are not a game, no matter how simple the treatments may seem. There are records of people who have died because their doctors have not used the right products or have not performed the treatment in the right way. So make sure safety is your top priority!
